Cornwall Council Adult Education team has a continuing aim to offer Saltash residents opportunities to improve their skills, learn or re-learn English, maths and ICT, and gain qualifications. This could:
- Help with employment
- Help people access promotion and deal with a higher demand on their skills which results
- Help families understand how their children are taught and to support them with homework
- Allow people a feeling of mastery over things which always defeated them, e.g. algebra, fractions, spelling, report-writing
- Give people a good grounding and confidence to go on and try further study at higher levels
We do this through our Link into Learning centre at 6 Fore Street.
Anyone interested may phone 0300 1231 117 or pop in, to arrange a friendly exploration of skills and options, at any time of the year.

Sustainability & Transformation Plan
Cornwall Council has been working with health partners to develop a new five year plan to improve health, wellbeing and the quality of local health care services across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly and we want to hear what people in the area think.
Outline proposals have been published on the website: www.cornwall.gov.uk/shapethefuture which set out how this will be delivered and explains how people can have their say on the priorities and help shape future services.
The Town Messenger is included in the Saltash Observer newspaper, which is delivered - free of charge - to addresses in the town.
Town Council Priorities
Many thanks to all residents who returned a copy of the priorities form in the last Messenger, or on the town council website. All the returns were analysed, alongside forms completed by young people at saltash.net and those completed by town councillors.
As a result the Town Council produced a provisional list of priorities which it then debated in September 2013. In this discussion the top priority was decided to be ‘Continuing existing town centre improvement projects (free parking, extra signage, hanging baskets etc.)’.
The high priorities were decided as
Continuing to develop a Saltash Neighbourhood Plan (for housing, jobs etc. for the next 20 years)
Providing a ‘vibrant Saltash’ office (paid employee to oversee publicity, co-ordinate festivals, support community groups, town centre management etc). For further investigation and final decision by full council
Promoting appropriate developments to waterside amenities
Providing grants for community groups (Community Chest)
Funding festivals in general
Promoting development of Saltash station building (including additional passenger/community facilities)
Improving play areas
Developing the use of the Maurice Huggins Room within current budget
Attracting additional leisure facilities (suggestions: aquarium/ice rink/skate parks/cinema etc)
The town council is now looking into how these top and high priorities will be funded and taken forward.
Other priorities were graded as ‘medium’, ‘low’ or ‘none’ priorities: we are reviewing all of these to make sure that they are consistent and achievable, and there may be a few changes to the list made by October full council. A full list will be published on the town council website after this final decision.
There was considerable discussion about where toilets should fit within the priorities, but it was decided that at this time the Town Council should not prioritise taking these on from Cornwall Council. Instead the Town Council will continue to lobby Cornwall to ensure that they are kept open and maintained to a proper standard.
Read the final list here.
